Lullaby, 2006

Louise Bourgeois
Sérigraphie sur tissu, suite de 25 Ed. 3/12 + 2 AP
Dimensions variables

The printed backdrop looks like music paper and the title sets the tone: Lullaby.

It hums another tune of everyday life. Based on objects belonging to her, Louise Bourgeois has created these friendly drawings: scissors, candy box, magnifying glass… Their moving proportions, their curves that stave off injuries, result in kindly, organic shapes the colour of life. They caress and appease the gaze. The composition, as one describes a musical piece, rises here in a chromatic, sensual, sensitive and human chant.

A key figure of the twentieth century art scene, her work is inseparable from her own history, as a girl, a woman and a mother, and is accomplished like a vital and salutary gesture.

The 4 pieces featured in the exhibition, drawings and bronzes, testify to the quest that was hers: namely capturing the inexpressible in the world by redefining the outlines of the female body, by recreating life-producing forms in blood-red lines, in volumes that disrupt the definition of gender. A liberating force inhabits each of her works.
